Oman’s Grand Mufti launches community welfare programme

Muscat: Oman’s Grand Mufti has launched a new religious endowment programme to encourage citizens in the Sultanate to take part in community activities for the benefit of all.
The Imam Jabir Bin Zayd Waqf Establishment celebrated yesterday the launch of the ‘Waqf’ (endowment) initiative. The event was held in the Supreme Court of Oman under the patronage of Nasser bin Hamoud Al Kindi, Secretary General of the Royal Court Affairs.
His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Sultanate’s Grand Mufti and Founder of Imam Jabir Bin Zayd Waqf Establishment attended the event. Aligned with the concept of religious endowment, the scheme will play a key role in bringing equality and development for the nation.
Waqf is a permanent welfare initiative which aims to deliver a variety of community projects with long lasting benefits for all citizens. Promoting social integration and cooperation for goodwill will be a feature of the enterprise as well encouraging local organisations and individuals to contribute to charitable projects.
By providing background on the establishment, its services and the Waqf projects, it is hoped citizens will learn how to get involved and that the initiative will set an example for other endowment organisations which, like Waqf, use asset management to maintain value and money spent within the institutions.
The establishment’s targets are to work in the field of human sciences, support educational institutions and centres as well as help students in need. Health care and social support will be provided to those in need. Furthermore, the establishment will invest in real estate, industry, commerce, agriculture and other fields that are aligned with the tenets of Islamic Shari’a.
