Muscat: The Ministry of Labour signed on Wednesday a job-training pact with Oman Society for Petroleum Services (Opal).
Sayyid Salim bin Musallam Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Development signed the agreement with Opal CEO Abdulrahman bin Humaid Al Yahyaei.
The agreement signing comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Labour on training and qualifying national job-seekers through involvement of the various sectors and within its endeavours for encouragement of national jobseekers for joining the training and professional skills programmes for employment in the available job opportunities in the energy and minerals sector and other sectors in accordance with the requirements of the labour market.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Labour and Opal would prepare and implement training strategies and plans to ensure national jobseekers are well prepared to join employment in the energy and minerals sector and other sectors. The professions and jobs to be assumed by national jobseekers and the skills and qualifications required for employment would be identified.
There would also be contracting with the licensed training institutes to be provided with quality programmes (Opal Star) as per the policies and terms of the Ministry of Labour in order to meet the requirements of the available professions / jobs.
Following the agreement signing, a joint committee would be formed to supervise on implementation of the clauses of the cooperation programme, to follow with training of the jobseekers, to consider and study the proposed professions and the related job-training programmes, to identify the appropriate mechanism for award of the training programmes and to evaluate the technical and financial tender bids submitted in accordance with the applicable quality system.
