Ministry of Social Development specifies tasks of staff in nurseries in Oman

Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development has issued a decision specifying the tasks of the functional staff in nurseries, including the director of the nursery, the children’s supervisor, the nanny, and the janitor in a manner that ensures the provision of a safe environment for the care of children.

The decision stated that one of the tasks of the director of the nursery is to report any suspected cases of abuse against the child if it occurs in the nursery through the means and mechanisms of protection, follow up the safety and security of children, develop emergency plans and programmes and procedures for evacuating the building, and train children and workers on a regular basis.

Supervising the rehabilitation and training of the functional staff periodically with regard to the characteristics of child development, with the importance of focusing on courses in the field of child protection and first aid, and coordinating with health centers and institutions to conduct periodic visits to examine children.

Among the tasks of the children’s supervisor, the decision taken states: “Preparing a monthly report on each child and submitting it to the director of the nursery, providing the director of the nursery with a record of follow-up of the child’s growth that shows the extent of his development and growth and familiarity with the child’s situation in terms of growth, health and social status."

The decision also stated that the nanny should develop and enhance the child’s sensory and cognitive skills, monitor the child’s growth and cognitive development according to the form prepared for this purpose, coordinate with health centers and inform the nursery manager in the event of discovering any health problems, diseases, disabilities or health problems in children, pay attention to children’s hygiene and care, and prevent any abuse towards them, with the importance of reporting any suspected cases of abuse against children that occur in the nursery, providing a safe environment for children’s care.
