MSX index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 3,971.53 points, down 0.28 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended higher by 0.22 per cent at 595.15 points.

Al Jazeera Services, up 2.53 per cent, was the top gainer while Construction Materials, down 3.33 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Ahli Bank was the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Bank Muscat was the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 343 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR1.46 million, with more than 7.1 million shares changing hands. Out of 41 traded stocks, 3 advanced, 15 declined and 23 remained unchanged. At the session close, GCC & Arab investors were net sellers for OMR158,000 while local investors were net buyers for OMR97,000 followed by foreign investors for OMR61,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,298.85 points, down 0.14 per cent. Taageer Finance closed up by 1.25 per cent and was the only gainer. Prices of Oman Qatar Insurance, Al Madina Investment, Vision Insurance, National Bank of Oman, and Al Omaniya Financial Services were down by 3.23 per cent, 3.08 per cent, 1.23 per cent, 1.06 per cent, and 0.86 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 5936.99 points, down 0.36 per cent. There were no gainers from the sector. Prices of Construction Materials, Oman Cement, Oman Cables, Al Anwar Ceramics, and Jazeera Steel Products were down by 3.33 per cent, 1.30 per cent, 1.21 per cent, 0.87 per cent and 0.51 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.25 per cent before closing at 1,708.57 points. Prices of Al Jazeera Services and Renaissance Services were up by 2.53 per cent and 0.45 per cent respectively. Phoenix Power, OIFC, Omantel, and Dhofar Generating were down by 2.17 per cent, 1.59 per cent, 1.54 per cent, and 1.54 per cent respectively.
