Muscat: Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) seized unlicensed cosmetic products in a commercial centre in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate.
"The Consumer Protection Department in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, in cooperation with the Pharmaceutical Control Department of the Directorate General of Health Services in the governorate, managed to seize a number of cosmetic products that were up for sale without approval. This was during an inspection of a commercial centre in the governorate," the authority said in a statement.
Forty cans of baby face lotion of types 2 and 3, containing hydroquinone tretinoin, were seized during the inspection. A violation was issued to the centre for trading the product without obtaining the approval of the Ministry of Health, which is in violation of Consumer Protection Authority Decision No. (98/2020) regarding regulating the circulation of some cosmetic products. This prohibits the circulation of cosmetic products that contain hydroquinone until it is approved by the Ministry of Health.
The decision stipulates the imposition of an administrative fine between OMR 50 and OMR 1,000 and the fine may be doubled to OMR 2,000 in the event of a repeat violation.
