The tale behind this falaj in Oman and its maker

Bahla: Oman’s unique Aflaj irrigation system, constructed long ago, continue to serve their purpose of providing water security and supporting agriculture.
These water channels travel long distances between streams to bring irrigation to farms. Bahla, like many other wilayats of the Sultanate, has many Aflaj.
The most important of these is “Falaj Al Maitha’’. Located in the Bahla oasis, it is a great example of Omani architecture. The construction of the Falaj is attributed to Omani engineer Maitha, says Zakaria bin A’mir Al Humaimi, a researcher in history.
She not only suggested to the people of the wilayat of Bahla that they should build a Falaj as part of her plan to achieve water security and develop the local economy, but also financed it, he says quoting old sources.
Maitha’s sister “Gaitha”, an architect, funded the establishment Bahla Wall to defend the wilaya. The Falaj and the wall took one full year to complete.
Falaj Al Maitha is mentioned in a number of old Omani manuscripts and documents, he added. There are papers and documents about Falaj Al Maitha in the documents Department at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture.
Falaj Al Maitha has received the attention of the government which repaired its channels and cemented them. An artesian well has also been drilled to feed it.
