Number of COVID-19 cases in ICUs drop from 460 to 129

Muscat: The number of COVID-19 patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) has dropped to 129 from 460, statistics from the Ministry of Health said.

On June 24, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saeedi, Minister of Health and member of the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from Coronavirus, had said the number of COVID-19 patients admitted to ICUs stood at 460, while 2,064 doctors have been attending the cases since the start of the pandemic.

The minister also pointed out that, at the start of the pandemic, government health establishments had less than 148 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds.

“The number of those beds multiplied scores of times, thanks to the unrelenting support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik and the sincere efforts of health workers,” he said.

On Wednesday (August 11), 476 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were registered in the Sultanate over the past two days, in addition to 20 new COVID-19-related deaths.

This brings the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the Sultanate to 299,418.

The total number of Covid-19-related deaths reached 3,968, the Ministry of Health said. The Ministry also added that 1,015 new cases have recovered, bringing the total number to 286,679 recoveries.

The Ministry also pointed out that there were 22 cases where hospitalisation was required over the past 24 hours and the total number of currently hospitalised,COVID-19-infected patients stands at 299.
