Muscat: Kingfish fishing and trading will be banned in Oman for two months from August 15, 2021, the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources announced on Monday.
"The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources announces the start of implementing the ban on fishing and trading of kingfish in the Sultanate for this year 2021, starting from next Sunday, August 15, until October 15, 2021 in accordance with the provisions of ministerial decision No. (2014/230)," the Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry calls upon fishermen, fish carriers, companies and institutions who work in fishing, transporting, buying, selling, trading and exporting kingfish to abide by the provisions of the aforementioned ministerial decision.
Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources Ministry stresses the need to review the departments and centres of fish development in the wilayats to register the quantities of kingfish they have before the ban period starts, as it will not be allowed to trade and export kingfish during the ban period unless it has been registered. It requests all those concerned to cooperate in order to achieve public interest and to avoid legal procedures and penalties against violators.
