MSX index ends marginally higher

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,007.10 points, up 0.13 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index up 0.04 per cent at 586.92 points.

Oman Cables Industry, up 3.00 per cent, was the top gainer while Oman & Qatar Insurance, down 4.91 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Sohar International Bank was the most active in terms of the number of shares traded as well as in terms of turnover.

A total number of 314 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR2.2 million, with more than 13.6 million shares changing hands. Out of 39 traded stocks, 11 advanced, 11 declined and 17 remained unchanged. At the session close, local investors were net buyers for OMR407,000 while foreign investors were net sellers for OMR351,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR56,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,370.32 points, up 0.17 per cent. Prices of Al Omaniya Financial Services, National Bank Oman, Bank Dhofar and Bank Nizwa were up 2.54 per cent, 2.25 per cent, 1.68 per cent and 1.03 per cent respectively. Oman & Qatar Insurance, Al Madina Investment, Taageer Finance, Sohar International Bank and Vision Insurance were down 4.91 per cent, 3.13 per cent, 2.38 per cent, 2.11 per cent and 1.23 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 5,908.43 points, up 0.29 per cent. Prices of Oman Cables Industry, Al Anwar Ceramics and Oman Cement were up 3.00 per cent, 0.86 per cent and 0.43 per cent respectively. Voltamp Energy and National Aluminum Product were down 3.08 per cent and 0.85 per cent respectively.

Services Index was up by 0.15 per cent before closing at 1,719.89 points. Prices of Al Suwadi Power, Al Jazeera Services, SMN Power Holding and Oman Investment & Financials were up 1.89 per cent, 1.54 per cent, 1.49 per cent and 0.78 per cent respectively. Ooredoo was the only loser by 1.04 per cent.
