Vehicle registration rises marginally in June over May

Muscat: The data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicate that the total number of vehicles registered till June 2021 increased by 0.1 percent to reach 1.54 million, compared to 1.53 million at the end of May 2021.

Vehicles with private registration accounted for 79.2 percent of the total number of registered vehicles, reaching 1,220,521.

As for vehicles with commercial registration, the number reached 232,168 (15.1 percent), while the number of taxis was 29,078 (1.9 percent). 

The number of rental vehicles stood at 22,760 (1.5  percent) of the total vehicles registered until the end of June 2021.

The number of government vehicles reached 12,328, while the number of vehicles with temporary registration (temporary inspection, export and import) was 10,687.  The number of registered motorbikes was 6,104, while the driving tutoring vehicles reached 5,792. Meanwhile, the agricultural tractors reached 1,301, and the number of diplomatic vehicles reached 823.

Among colours, white was the most preferred colour for vehicles in the Sultanate with 662,718 (43 percent).  Silver was the second choice with 198,269 (12.9 percent), while gray came as the third most prominent vehicle colour with about 124,200 (8.1 percent) vehicles.

As for engine capacity, the NCSI report indicated that the majority of vehicles (826,972) have engine capacities between 1500 and 3000 cc while 350,218 vehicles have engine capacities between 3001 and 4500cc.  The number of vehicles with engine capacity above 4500 cc stood at 200,535.

There were 115,025 vehicles with engine capacity less than 1500cc. About 48,812 vehicles functioned without engines as they were designed and manufactured to be towed by another vehicle.

In terms of weights, the report stated that the majority of vehicles weighed less than 3 tonnes, reaching 1,389,728.  As many as 69,910 vehicles weighed more than 10 tonnes.  About 44,963 vehicles weighed from 3 to 7 tonnes and 36,961 vehicles from 7 to 10 tonnes.
