MSX index ends lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,007.18 points, down 0.76 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index down 0.57 per cent at 584.31 points.

SMN Power Holding, up 3.23 per cent, was the top gainer while Oman Cables Industry, down 4.62 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Madina Takaful were the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Bank Muscat was the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 516 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR1.5 million, with more than 9 million shares changing hands. Out of 42 traded stocks, 2 advanced, 25 declined and 15 remained unchanged. At the session close, local investors were net buyers for OMR259,000 while foreign investors were net sellers for OMR209,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR51,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 6,394.94 points, down 0.79 per cent. Prices of Al Anwar Investment, Oman & Emirates Holding, National Life Insurance, National Bank Oman and Madina Takaful were down 4.10 per cent, 2.78 per cent, 2.56 per cent, 2.19 per cent and 1.89 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 5,817.11 points, down 1.02 per cent. Prices of Oman Cables Industry, Voltamp Energy, Galfar Engineering, Jazeera Steel Product and Al Anwar Ceramics were down 4.62 per cent, 3.85 per cent, 2.38 per cent, 1.48 per cent and 0.88 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.54 per cent before closing at 1,711.48 points. Price of SMN Power Holding and Dhofar Generating was up 3.23 per cent and 1.59 per cent respectively. Oman Investment & Financials, Al Jazeera Services, Sembcorp Salalah and Oman Telecommunication were down 3.05 per cent, 2.54 per cent, 1.20 per cent and 1.01 per cent respectively.
