Tokyo: Ariarne Titmus of Australia set new Olympic record to win women's 200m freestyle gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games here on Wednesday.
Fresh from a victory in 400m freestyle on Monday, where the 21-year-old came from behind to beat reigning Olympic champion and world record holder Kathleen Ledecky, Titmus emerged from third in the last split to touch home first in one minute and 53.50 seconds.
Bernadette Haughey of Hong Kong, China took the silver in an Asian record time of 1:53.92 while Canadian Penny Oleksiak claim the bronze in 1:54.70.
Ohashi wins her second gold
Japanese swimmer Yui Ohashi shook off a slow start to win her second gold at the Tokyo Olympics, triumphing in the women's 200m individual medley.
The 25-year-old won the host's first swimming gold on home soil in the 400m IM and added another here on Wednesday in two minutes and 08.52 seconds.
Ohashi, who placed only fifth after the butterfly split, beat Alex Walsh of the United States to second in freestyle by 0.13 seconds.
The other American swimmer Kate Douglass took the bronze, clocking 2:09.04.
China's 15-year-old YU Yiting led in the first 100m but finished fifth at last. Hungary's world record holder Katinka Hosszu came in the seventh place.
Five-time Olympic champion Kathleen Ledecky of the United States won her first gold in Tokyo in the women's 1,500m freestyle competition on Wednesday.
Ledecky was narrowly edged by Australian Ariarne Titmus in the women's 400m freestyle on Monday, but proved her strength over the 1,500m distance, as she enjoyed a substantial lead before finishing in 15 minutes and 37.34 seconds.
Her compatriot Erica Sullivan took the silver in 15:41.41, 1.5 seconds ahead of bronze medalist Sarah Kohler of Germany.
China's 19-year-old Wang Jianjiahe came fourth in 15:46.37.
