Muscat: Oman will play against Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, and Scotland in its qualification group of the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup, which is set to be held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates this October.

The other group will include Sri Lanka, Ireland, Namibia and the Netherlands, and is likely to be held in the UAE.

The top two teams from each group will seal qualification to the Super 12 stages of the tournament.

"This is a marquee tournament coming up in a few months, and being able to bring it to a new venue such as Oman is a great opportunity for us," said Geoff Allardice, the acting CEO of the International Cricket Council, global cricket's governing body.
