Muscat: At least 950 mangrove saplings have been planted by the Environment Authority in Dhofar Governorate.
A statement issued online by the Environment Authority said: "As part of the efforts made by the Environment Authority to implement the national initiative to plant 10 million trees and rehabilitate khors in the Sultanate, the Authority, in coordination with the Directorate General of Environment in the Governorate of Dhofar, planted 1,000 saplings of mangrove in Khor Fagara in the Wilayat of Shalim and Al Hallaniyat Islands."
"The mangroves are of great benefit in maintaining the ecological balance, as they serve to preserve beaches from erosion and are incubate areas for many commercially valuable fish and other marine creatures, in addition to being landscaped areas," the statement added.
