Don't distort traditional Omani wear: Ministry to businesses
MoCIIP said that some establishments were found selling products considered offensive

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) called upon businesses selling or making clothes not to sew or print slogans or trademarks on traditional apparel.

Traditional Omani clothing includes kimmah, musar or turban, dishdasha for men and abaya for women.

The ministry also asked businesses to avoid experimenting with designs of the musar or the Omani cap and other traditional wear.

The Directorate of Commercial Affairs and Electronic Commerce at MoCIIP said that traditional clothing is a symbol of Omani heritage.

This warning has been issued after it was found that some commercial establishments were violating the Ministerial Decision (270/2015) banning the import of certain products that are offensive to Omani sensibilities.

"Some establishments were also found selling products which had images and slogans considered offensive or against the common moral practices and sense of dressing," MoCIIP added.
