The workshop was opened by Dr. Saud Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

Muscat: Acting in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources on Monday organised a workshop on a plan to develop and manage surface fishing resources.

The workshop, held via videoconferencing, was aimed at laying the foundation stone of the National Plan for Developing Surface Fisheries Harvesting Areas.

The workshop was opened by Dr. Saud Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

The participants studied the outcome of a report on assessing mackerel commercial fishing in the Arabian Sea during the period 2019-2021.

The discussion was an opportunity to study views and proposals of the participants, as well as the best practices and technologies of surface fish harvesting.

During the workshop, the objectives of the plan were drafted, including the size and type of the desired fishing fleet. -ONA

This is in addition to studying investments pertaining to the added value of minor fishing areas. -ONA
