Oman sees record number of deaths due to COVID-19
For the first time, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 exceeded 100 during the last three days in Oman

Muscat: For the first time since the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic in Oman, the number of deaths exceeding 100 during the last three days, according to data from the Ministry of Health. The numbers point to a significant increase in new cases of coronavirus infections and ICU patients in the region.

On June 27, statistics made available on Tarassud, the coronavirus monitoring app launched by the ministry, showed that the number of those hospitalized during the past 24 hours reached 214 and 489 patients were admitted to ICU, bringing the total number of patients admitted to health institutions to 1,635.

The Sultanate also recorded 119 deaths during the past three days. On Thursday this was 42 deaths, 35 deaths on Friday and 42 deaths on Saturday, bringing the total to 2,967. There are 5,517 new cases of coronavirus, according to the daily report of the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry stated that the total number of registered cases in the Sultanate is 262,059, with 229,998 recovered or 87.8 per cent and 2,967 deaths (1.12 per cent).
