Muscat: Over 50,000 students will attend the General Education Diploma final exams for the current academic year.

About 360 centres have been set up across educational directorates in the governorates.

Exams start on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Education. As many as 56,759 students will appear for the exams this year.

“In light of the pandemic, the centre has stressed to those in charge of exam administration the importance of adhering to precautionary measures to ensure the safety of exam applicants and their employees,” said Dr Zwaina bint Saleh Al Maskari, Director General of the Measurement Centre and Educational Evaluation, and the General Supervisor of Examinations at the Ministry of Education.

Al Maskari indicated that this includes limiting the number of examinees in each hall to 15, following social distancing protocol, avoiding crowding at the time of entry and exit, and conducting temperature checks of students and employees,. in addition to following other guidelines of the ministries of health and education to deal with possible infected cases.

All students must wear a mask and carry their own stationery, and sterilizers should be available in every exam hall, she added.

"The Ministry of Education, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, has launched a campaign to immunise all applicants for the exams. The general education diploma and its level, and , The target for immunisation of 75,730 across Oman -- of general education diploma students as well as others involved in these exams, including specialists, observers, and correctors -- has been achieved," Al Maskari further said.
