Sayyid Fahd receives United Nations secretary general in Oman

Muscat: On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers received here on Tuesday Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) and his accompanying delegation.
The UN Secretary General expressed his greetings to His Majesty the Sultan along with his best wishes of permanent success to His Majesty and the Government.
Sayyid Fahd commended the distinguished role being played by the UN in enhancing communication among countries. He pointed out that the Sultanate, under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan, accords major importance to strengthen cooperation with all concerned international and regional organisations.
He also affirmed fundamentals of the Omani policy in its international relations that aim at supporting the sincere efforts for maintaining security and stability, which are the basis to achieve sustainable development in various regions of the world.
Conversation during the meeting touched on the role of this international organisation in activating cooperation among the member states, as well as preparing the atmosphere that is conducive for the success of negotiations, promoting understanding among nations and avoiding exacerbation of conflicts in several countries, in addition to reviewing a number of current issues at the regional arena and efforts exerted to achieve peace and stability.
On his turn, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General expressed his delight and honour for visiting the Sultanate, as well as its domestic and foreign achievements. He hailed the constant support given by Oman to the UN and all other international organisations to continue implementing its programs that target serving humanity. He also thanked the Sultanate for its positive contribution in encouraging dialogue and consensus to solve disputes peacefully, which earned the Sultanate the respect of all.
The meeting was attended by Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs.
Earlier, Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs received in his office the United Nations Secretary General. Conversation during the meeting touched on the developments at the regional arena and means of solving them by peaceful methods.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, officials in the ministry and the delegation accompanying the guest.
