Muscat: Tehran, capital city of Iran, will be the next destination for the Omani Products Exhibition (Opex) event, which will be held from September 26 to 30 this year.
New destination was announced during an event to honour the participants of the Opex which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia last month.
Honouring ceremony was under the auspices of Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry.
According to the officials of Opex, exhibition at the Ethiopian capital recorded a turnout of significant visitors representing various segments of the Ethiopian business society.
“Aim of the Opex 2016 aimed to boost cooperation between the Sultanate and Ethiopia,” Ayman Al Hasani, vice-chairman for economic and branches affairs at Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), and head of the Opex Organising Committee said.
“Event offered visitors with the opportunity to get familiarised with the Omani products under one platform,” he added.
According to him, exhibition also helped to find business-to-business meetings between Omani industrialists and their Ethiopian counterparts to discuss potential bilateral business opportunities.
Speaking about the outcomes of the five Opex events, Al Hasani said “The first ever Opex event took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in December 2012 where around 60 companies representing various sectors participated in the exhibition and promising deals were inked. The positive results of this exhibition were followed by successful exhibitions organised in Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, and finally Addis Ababa.”
“The number of participating companies has been increasing and encouraging us to undertake more efforts and provide more space for the exhibitors," Al Hasani pointed out.
According to him more than 100 Oman firms participated in Opex in Addis Ababa.
“Firms from various industries like natural resources, minerals, wood products, manufacturing products, furniture, food, medical and pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, plastic and metal equipment, perfume, leather, and logistics participated,” he said.
“Moreover, around 82% of the participating companies and factories inked trade deals during the event," he asserted.
Opex event are organised by a government committee formed by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa), and Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI).
Honouring ceremony was attended by Dr Salem bin Nasser Al Ismaily, Chairman of Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa); Said bin Saleh Al Kiyumi, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI); and Hilal bin Hamad Al Hasani, CEO of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE).
