Oman launches COVID-19 vaccination centre

Muscat:  COVID-19 vaccination will be provided at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) starting from June 20, 2021, Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.

“The Ministry of Health announces the start of operation of OCEC to provide COVID-19 vaccination service as of Sunday, June 20, 2021. The Ministry calls on everyone to follow up on updates about the target groups and registration mechanism,” a statement issued online by the Ministry of Health said.

The centre expects to vaccinate 5,000 to 10,000 citizens and residents per day.  

The centre began preparing on this project with a large group of Omani organisation, which included participation of 250 young volunteers.

The exhibition halls of the centre are also equipped with specifications and requirements in accordance with the precautionary measures in terms of physical distancing and other specified guidelines.

The role will be in taking the vaccines through the numbering screens, a system similar to that of the Royal Oman Police halls. The centre will contain drive-through service for the elderly and people with disabilities, which will contribute to the smooth implementation of this service.

Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre took into account the expected congestion in light of the rising temperatures.

About 4,000 shaded parking spaces are equipped with a staff to organise the entry and exit of vehicles and directional panels in all the centre’s facilities, including car parks, entrances and exits, and waiting halls. The tracks will be allocated according to the target groups according to age or the type of vaccines, and doses according to the planning and division of the rooms designated for vaccination.

The Ministry of Health is developing Tarassud+ app in order to book an appointment for the vaccine before going to the main centre or other centres in the various governorates of the Sultanate. There will be no need to wait for long as the reservation will be through the application according to scheduled dates.

According to the information, the launch of the centre will be announced in the coming days by the Ministry of Health.
