Northern winds lead mercury to shoot up in Oman
The monitoring stations of the Civil Aviation Authority recorded a noticeable rise in temperatures in five governorates

Muscat: The temperature rose in the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, Al Wusta and North Al Sharqiyah.

"The monitoring stations of the Civil Aviation Authority recorded a noticeable rise in temperatures in the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, Al Wusta and North Al Sharqiyah, where the Fhud and Qarn Al-Alam stations recorded 49 degrees Celsius. Ibri, Al Mudhaibi and Ibra recorded 48 degrees Celsius, coinciding with the northern winds," an online statement by Oman Meteorology said.

"Currently, dust is rising in the desert areas of Al Dhahirah Governorate due to these winds (25 knots)," added the statement.
