Oman Crime: Killed Indian worker’s family still in shock

Muscat: Sindhu Kumari, the Indian woman who was found dead in Salalah last Friday, had been working in Oman for the last four years.
“She had moved to Oman about four years ago. We are still not out of the shock and are waiting for the body to arrive,” Shanthakumar Sadasivan, brother of the victim, told the Times of Oman from India over phone. An Indian embassy official said since investigations were still on, the body will not be repatriated today.
“We are coordinating with local officials. Repatriation of body will happen as early as possible,” the official added.
Sindhu was stabbed by an expatriate who had entered Oman illegally. The culprit stole her jewellery and fled from the scene.
He was arrested by the Royal Oman Police 24 hours after the body was discovered.
According to the police, the alleged killer, an Arab national, was arrested in Adam. The 42-year-old victim was from the southern Indian state of Kerala.
According to a police source, on the night of the murder, the suspect, carrying a white weapon (knife), was able to enter the victim’s home in a residential complex.
“He assaulted her and stabbed her several times. He then stole her gold jewellery and fled from the scene,” added the source in the ROP. “The suspect has confessed to his crime and the stolen goods were recovered from him,” said the source. The suspect has been referred to the public prosecution for further investigations.
