Oman participates in meeting for Silk Roads Programme

Muscat: Oman participated in the second virtual meeting of the UNESCO International Network for the Silk Roads Programme.

A statement issued online by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism said that the Sultanate was represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in the Silk Roads Programme at the second virtual meeting of the UNESCO International Network for the Silk Roads Programme. Muati bin Salem Al-Muati, Assistant Director General of Museums, participated as the Ministry's representative.

The Silk Roads Programme seeks to implement a development strategy that includes infrastructure development and investments in a number of countries on the continents linked to the Silk Road. In addition to accelerating efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, which depends on coordinating policies among the countries through which the road passes.

The road connects the service facilities that arise around it, enables unimpeded trade, and supports financial integration and exchanges between people.

Al-Muati pointed out that the results of scientific research confirmed the historical connection of the Sultanate with the Silk Road and its cradle to the commercial communication between the civilisations of the ancient world at different time periods.

The Sultanate participated this year with the member states which included, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Georgia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Portugal, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the State of Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as observers.
