Close to 1000 fire accidents in Oman

Muscat: The Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA), has dealt with nearly 1000 fire accidents in 2020.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA), said: "The total number of fire accidents in residential facilities that were dealt with by the firefighting teams at civil defense and ambulance in 2020 was 994 compared to 1,152 accidents in 2019."

The sources of danger in residential facilities are many due to the presence of electrical tools and devices that people use permanently, and the degree of their danger varies according to the mechanism of dealing with them.

The CDAA calls for adherence to the preventive instructions when using electrical appliances, cooking gas and other equipment and devices at home, to avoid any risks that may cause loss of life and property.

With the high temperatures in the summer season and based on the authority's concern for the safety of community members and their property, it calls on everyone to follow safety guidelines in residential facilities issued by it, including not leaving electrical devices working for long periods, and closing the gas cylinder as soon as cooking is finished and when leaving the house and checking the gas pipeline periodically.

In addition to the acquisition of a multi-purpose fire extinguisher (CO2) and a fire blanket, the usage of high-quality electrical tools and devices that conform to the specifications, the electric sockets not being overloaded, the concern to maintain the electrical equipment and connections periodically, and not to place obstacles in front of the exits and corridors in addition to monitoring children and keeping them away from place of danger and keep hazardous and flammable materials out of their reach.

The authority noted that the main source of electricity and gas should be closed if possible and leave the house directly and make sure that all family members leave and gather at a point far from the danger of fire and call the emergency number (9999) or (24343666) to request the services of the authority.
