Sharkha fishing season to end
Muscat: The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources has announced that sharkha fishing season will end on 31st May 2021.
A statement issued online by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources said: The Ministry announces the end of Sharkha fishing season in the Sultanate for this year on Monday, May 31, and the entry into force of the ban on hunting and trading sharkha from the first of June until the end of February of next year.

The Ministry calls upon all fishermen, fish transporters, companies, institutions, hotels, restaurants, and individuals to review the fisheries development departments in the wilayats to record the quantities of the Sharkha they have before the aforementioned ban period comes into effect. It will not be permitted to trade and export Sharkha during the ban period unless it has been previously registered.

The Living Aquatic Resources Law punishes the perpetrators of fishing and possession of Sharkha violations during the prohibition period with a fine between OMR 300 to OMR 5000 or imprisonment for a period of between one and three months, or with both penalties with the confiscation of the quantity or price of the sharkha , confiscation of the equipment used in committing the violation, and the temporary or final withdrawal of the fishing license.
