Majlis Al Shura meeting to discuss impact of COVID-19 on tourism

Muscat: Majlis Al Shura during the 11th regular meeting of the second annual convening (2020-2021) of the ninth term (2019-2023) will host on Sunday Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

The regular session would discuss the statement of the ministry of Heritage and Tourism, which is the first statement for the Ministry before Majlis Al Shura.

The statement would discuss five salient aspects on top of which comes the actual condition of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism under the current and potential impacts of COVID-19 pandemic.

This aspect also tackle the planned contribution of tourism sector  in the Tenth-Five Year Plan (2021-2025), the governorates-wise strategic projects and investments in tourism 2040 and investments in integrated tourism complexes.

The second aspect would discuss the legislations regulating the tourism sector, the developments to the tourism law, updating the regulation of the tourism law, the outcomes of the National Programme for Economic Diversification and fees and taxes associated with licences , activities and tourism services.      

The third aspect of the statement of the Ministry would discuss the future of marketing and tourism promotion among other issues.

The fourth aspect would focus on human resources in tourism sector and would point to the impacts of COVID-19 on the tourism sector.

The fifth aspect would tackle the policies, plans and programmes the Ministry is working on in the field of heritage.

This aspect would also point to the efforts and development plans of the Ministry in the field of heritage sites, mainly the sites  listed in the UNESCO list of international heritage sites; renovation of heritage sites land marks and maintenance of renovated forts, old mosques and historic buildings among other issues.
