Al Turki to play new season as Oman Stallions, Premier Division set to see ‘Yallah Shabab’ too

MUSCAT: Oman’s Premier League will see two new names on the competition charts of 2021-22 cricket season that is likely to start earlier than anticipated.

Most of former Premier Division champion Assarain players will be part of Yallah Shabab cricket team, supported and sponsored by Chaitanya Khimji, owner of Premier League runners-up Al Turki NMC, which will take part in the new season as Oman Stallions.

The team got its name Yallah Shabab through a Facebook competition and awarded the winner, Mohsin Javed, a cash prize of OMR 100 for proposing the name that the team management chose to adopt.

Celebrating Al Turki’s success at Grand Millenium Hotel, Chaitanya, flanked by Vinu Mathew, team manager of Yallah Shabab, rewarded the players with prizes whereas the team presented him a memento.

“I am proud of the boys who worked very hard to reach these heights. In the next season, I will be happy to sponsor both the teams which are going to participate in the Premier Division 50-over and T20 formats,” added Chaitanya.

Explaining further, he said the two teams were formed to support the current players and motivate the new guys to raise their game to the national level competition. Both the teams will encourage the inclusion of Omani nationals for the coming season,” he explained.

Vinu said the team’s Arabic name meant ‘let’s go, youngsters’ or ‘come on, youngsters’ to associate with the fighting spirit that made the bunch of players such a champion side over the years.
