Oman to witness drop in Covid-19 cases
Muscat: Oman will witness a significant decrease in the number of new Covid-19 infections by September, a statistical expert said.

According to the data, the Sultanate witnessed a 60% decrease in the number of new infections in May, compared to the previous month.

The Oman News Agency said in its report: "It should be emphasized that the decrease in cases of Covid 19 should not be a reason for lax adherence to the precautionary measures, which is an essential matter that must be understood by everyone."

The Oman News Agency highlights the decrease in injuries during the period from May 1 to May 20.

Statistical analyst Ibrahim Al Maymani explained that when analyzing the statistics from the beginning of May until last Thursday corresponding to the current May 20, we notice a decrease in the number of new cases in the first 16 days, while the numbers increased slightly at the same level at the beginning of the month, adding that in the same period the cases witnessed. There was a decrease in the new cases, while the cure rates were more than the new cases, which led to an increase in the cure rate from 89.5 percent to 92.5 percent.

He said in a statement to Oman News Agency ONA: " 14,503 new cases were recorded during this period when comparing this number to the same period last April, which recorded 23,475 new cases, and thus a decrease in the number of new cases was recorded by 62 percent .. pointing out that in terms of recovery cases Since the beginning of May, 18613 new recoveries have been recorded, compared to 18690 in the same period last month, with a very slight decrease of 0.4 percent."

And he indicated that with regard to the hypnotic cases in hospitals, it was noticed that the number of hospitalized sleeping cases decreased by 20 percent, i.e. by 169 cases, as the number was at the beginning of the month of May 833 cases, while the cases until last Thursday reached 664 cases, and as for the intensive care cases, the number reached at the beginning In May, 275 cases, and the number decreased to 251 in 21 of the same month, a decrease of 24 cases, by 9 percent.

He explained: "the percentage of inpatients in hospitals compared to the total number of inpatients in hospitals rose from 33 percent at the beginning of the month to 38 percent until the date of May 20, due to the decrease in the total number of inpatients in hospitals, which is almost constant in the number of inpatients in intensive care."

He added: "when analyzing the death index, which is the most important indicator, we notice that the number of deaths is still high, as the total deaths reached 218, at a rate of 11 deaths per day, which is less than the rate of last April, as last month was 11.5 deaths per day, which is the highest rate since The pandemic begins."

Al Maymani pointed out: "The number of inpatients during the last 24 hours during the period from the first of May to Thursday, May 20 this year decreased to less than a hundred cases, considering that this indicator is relatively good as it will directly affect the sleeping cases in hospitals, including intensive care, indicating that the increase in the number of inpatients constitutes A great burden on the Ministry of Health and the capacity of hospitals, especially after registering a new record in intensive care, which was estimated at 287 cases on May 4."
Statistical analyst Ibrahim Al Maymani expected that there will be a significant decrease in the month of September in the number of new infections and inpatients in hospitals and intensive care, and this would definitely affect the numbers of deaths coinciding with the Ministry of Health plan to vaccinate between 30 and 35 percent of residents of the Sultanate until the end of next August, in addition to continuing to prevent travelers from coming to the Sultanate from the 15 previously announced countries, and to affirm compliance with all precautionary measures.
