Muscat: The National Museum has issued a statement about video clips being circulated of some of the holdings that were attributed to the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said that was rumoured to be put up for sale in auctions.
The museum said in its statement: “Recently social media platforms are circulating video clips of some of the holdings that were attributed to the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said and are rumoured to be offered for sale in private auctions. "
Accordingly, the National Museum wants to clarify the following: In commemoration of the legacy of Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur, the founder of the modern renaissance of Oman, and by the orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the National Museum - along with other museums in the Sultanate - is honoured by the devolution of a unique collection from the royal holdings.
"Where the National Museum has dedicated an integrated hall for this noble purpose, which is currently being implemented, which sheds light on epics that laid down the life of the great late sultan chapters from the blessed Renaissance, and thus the Sultanate became a forerunner in its vision by making the Sultan’s holdings available for museum display, to gain this splendour from its impact, In order for the late Sultan's possessions to remain present in the conscience, and a rich national asset in the memory of this glorious nation." the statement added.
The museum explained that: "as for the pieces that the late Sultan preferred and gifted during his life, which are the pieces subject to circulation and publication through social media, these pieces are nothing more than gifts that are preferred by the late Sultan, for he was known for his generosity.
“In addition what is meant by the royal holdings is those possessions that devolved to the late Sultan through one of the aspects of acquisition, which he allocated for his sublime stature,” the statement added.
