Muscat: The Shura Council on Tuesday referred a proposal for a new law called Oman Zakat Law and a unified draft law system for combating commercial fraud in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries for their next session.
The Shura Council’s office reviewed support of the continuous coordination between all the country's institutions.
During the meeting, the mechanism of a partnership between the Council and the government in the next phase in national issues was discussed, and the mechanism for conducting follow-up tools was emphasized as stipulated in the Oman Council Law.
The office also discussed with the heads of the permanent committees a number of issues, the most prominent of which is related to the importance of the Oman Council practicing its legislative powers with regard to reviewing laws and the importance of submitting them to the Oman Council in accordance with what was specified by the Basic Law of the State issued by Royal Decree No. (6/2021) in its Article (72) and what was specified by the Law of the Council of Oman in Articles (49) and (50) about the legislative session of laws.
The meeting of the office with the heads of the permanent committees discussed the mechanisms through which the work of these committees could be directed in accordance with the terms of reference defined by the Oman Council Law.
The office also referred to the proposal submitted by one of the members of the council regarding the creation of a law called the Omani Zakat Law. It also provided general features of the components of the draft law in terms of its name, the establishment of general authority for zakat, the formation of the board of directors of the authority, the definition of its terms of reference, and the formation of Zakat committees in the wilayats and determining the types of funds in which Zakat is due and the categories due for Zakat and others, for the twelfth session of the Council.
