Support reaches 70 families affected by thunderstorm in North Al Batinah

Muscat: Close to 70 families, who faced damage to their property during the thunderstorms on May 5, have started receiving support based on support offered by charitable team Al Balad Altaib and other government funds.

The families live in wilayat Al Khaboura in North Al Batinah governorate. Sawsan Al Yaqoubi, Deputy Chairman of the Development Committee at the Directorate of Social Development in the Wilayat, spoke to Times of Oman and said: “The number of families whose property was damaged by the storm has reached 70. A part of what the charitable team Al Balad Altaib offered has been used to start support for these families.”

She added, "These affected families were also supported by the funds available to the Social Development Committee and the Omani Authority for Charitable Activities to help them overcome the severe damages they suffered."

Al-Yaqoubi ruled out any material compensation at the present time, but added that the names of those affected will be referred to the competent authorities and considered for compensation.
