Two years in jail for refusing to honour car warranty in Oman

Muscat: A supervisor at a car dealership has been sentenced to two years in jail and an OMR 2,000 fine by a court in Salalah.
A consumer bought a new SUV from the dealership with a 5-year free service guarantee. After using the vehicle, the consumer noticed a faulty engine which prompted him to head to the service station for repairs under the guarantee only to be refused the free service.
The consumer resorted to conduct regular maintenances in regular garages due to the supervisor’s procrastination in conducting the repairs.
A complaint was made to the Directorate of Consumer Protection in Dhofar about the issue.
After inspecting the vehicle and confirming the fault, the supervisor was summoned to court where the judge fined him OMR 2000 and sentenced him to two years in jail for violating articles 14b, 20 and 26 of the consumer protection law.
