Muscat: Al Mouj Golf announced that it has held its’ ranking as number two in the Top 20 Golf Courses in the Middle East in a poll carried out by Top 100 Golf Magazine.
The Greg Norman-designed course has scooped the accolade for the second year running in an increasingly competitive field, with Al Mouj Golf winning recognition for both the outstanding quality of the course and its exceptional oceanside setting.
Norman’s 72-par, 18-hole course comprises 7,342 yards, is flanked by two kilometres of unspoilt coastline overlooking the Sea of Oman and is set against the backdrop of the majestic Al Hajar Mountains.
It was Oman’s first links-style course which, since opening in 2011, has hosted the Oman Open (European Tour) Championship and attracted many plaudits and accreditations. Titles include Winners of the IAGTO sustainability award for community value and consistently earning Top 2 Middle East rankings and Audubon and GEO Certification for strong leadership in sustainability and
golf.
Commenting on this latest win, Nasser bin Masoud Al Sheibani, CEO of Al Mouj Muscat, said: “This is a real achievement for Al Mouj Golf, and it exemplifies Al Mouj Muscat’s aptitude for creating destinations where visitors and residents can enjoy world-class amenities and exceptional lifestyle experiences.
“Just as importantly, Al Mouj Golf reflects our long-term commitment to environmental and sustainability awareness and implementation, with our golf course one of only 20 across the globe to have been awarded dual certification for its work on nature, resource preservation and the community. And with significant improvements to the course planned to start this year, I believe that the best is yet to come for members, visitors and the course’s outstanding natural beauty.”
Al Mouj Golf has a resort-like feel owing to additional facilities and services such as a nine-hole course, a teaching academy and floodlit driving range, a fully equipped Pro-shop, and a restaurant with grass lawns and range views for players and general public to enjoy. Building on its success there are plans for a number of upgrades including a brand-new clubhouse with ocean and mountain views overlooking the 18th fairway.
