Muscat: There has been a marked drop in signal jumping across the Sultanate in 2020 compared to six years ago, with a reduction in violations by over 65 per cent, the Director of Traffic Violations Department at the General Traffic Department said on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Zakia bint Hamad Al-Sanawyah, Director of Traffic Violations Department at the General Traffic Department revealed, “Violations recorded for jumping a red light signal have decreased by 67 per cent in 2020 compared to 2015, as a result of vehicle drivers' commitment to traffic rules and regulations."

"The procedures for dealing with the driver of the vehicle, proven to have jumped a signal include the arrest of the driver of the violating vehicle for a period not exceeding 48 hours and seizure of the vehicle for a period not exceeding two weeks with the issuance of a report of violation of the first class."
