Duqm plant to start rolling out buses soon

Muscat: The CEO of Karwa Motors has said that the company is geared up to roll out the first bus from its factory located in the Special Economic Zone of Duqm.

In an interview to the Duqm Economic Magazine in its April issue, he said that the company plans to produce at least 200 buses during the current year, and all the vehicles will be of the advanced school bus types, but the company will later shift to city buses and long-line buses later.
The production capacity of the factory in its early stages is 500 buses annually, but the
annual production after the first phase will range from 500 buses to 700 buses, he added.
The factory is considered one of the strategic investments between the Sultanate and the State of Qatar, through the Oman Investment Authority which has 30 percent share, and the Qatar Transportation Company has 70 percent share.
The factory includes 3 main workshops, which are the cutting and welding workshop, the dyeing workshop, and the equipment and motors assembly workshop. When the engineers confirm that the bus
is ready, its capabilities are tested in the designated inspection yard. The project site also includes a repair workshop, a secondary power station,   a refrigeration equipment room, a fuel station, in addition to the administration building and some  other facilities.
