Apple ginger valued for its medicinal properties

Nizwa: Apple ginger has been used as a medicinal product for thousands of  years because of its advantages. It has been also used for the purpose of disinfection, preservation of food and dental treatment.

Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Hadidi, one of the producers of apple ginger in the Wilayat of Nizwa, who has been in this profession for the last four years, spoke on the process of manufacturing apple ginger.  He said the process starts with apple picking, storage, fermentation, extraction, marketing, selling and consumption.

“The period for production of apple ginger is 40 to 45 days to ensure it is free from alcohol during the production season and to ensure it is available at reasonable prices,” he said. The stages of production of apple ginger should meet all safety measures including cleanliness of the items used and should be free from contaminated substances, he said.

“There are other types of natural ginger including grape ginger, date ginger, coconut ginger and others,” he said, adding that “the quality of ginger depends on the methods of processing and storage.

Al Hadidi concluded by saying that ‘promotion and marketing the product is through the social media’.

He hoped to further develop the product to produce at a commercial level and to establish his own state-of-the-art factory.
