Al Amerat: The Oman Astronomical Society had fixed a signboard with Tropic of Cancer written on it at a roadside in Al Atkiah area of the wilayat of Al Amerat in 2017.
The signboard displays the point where the Tropic of Cancer enters the Sultanate starting from Al Sifa, to Al Amerat, Fanja, Wadi Al Ma’awil, Al Rustaq and Ibri.
Mohammed bin Nabhan Al Battashi, member of the Oman Astronomical Society, said that the selection of the site is aimed at showing the course of the Tropic of Cancer as it crosses from east to west.
“The areas located on the Tropic of Cancer record high temperatures as compared to others, which is not true as the climate is affected due to a number of other factors including the height of the location from sea level, percentage of humidity, wind movement, close to water bodies and forests .etc,” he said.
