Jail term for three in Oman for hunting wild birds

Muscat: A sentence of imprisonment for one month and a fine of OMR 1,100 has been imposed against three citizens for hunting wild birds, the Environment Authority said.

A statement issued online by Environment Authority said: "Thumrait Court of First Instance issued a ruling convicting 3 citizens of the misdemeanour of hunting wild birds protected by the Natural Reserves and Wildlife Conservation Law No. (6/2003), and imposed a fine of OMR 1,100, confiscation of weapons and imprisonment for a period of one month and a suspended prison term for one of them as pre-trial detention was sufficient."

"The Environment Authority calls on everyone to preserve the diversity of wildlife and not to be exposed to legal accountability,” the statement added.
