International participation elevates Inclusive Leadership Masterclass in Muscat

Muscat: The Inclusive Leadership Masterclass was launched by the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) in collaboration with the State Audit Institution (SAI), on May 27 at the Sheraton Hotel in Muscat.

The three-day event was inaugurated by Ahmed bin Salim Al Rujaibi, Deputy Chairman of the State Audit Institution, and saw participation from heads of Supreme Audit Institutions and members of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

The Inclusive Leadership Masterclass seeks to achieve several key objectives, the most important of which is to leverage the experiences of SAI leaders and the knowledge of international experts. The masterclass also aims at developing innovative strategies for adopting an inclusive leadership approach, thereby assisting SAIs in the effective fulfilment of their mandates. In addition, the programme targets raising knowledge and awareness on the importance of inclusive leadership as a core value of the SAI and allowing SAI leaders to identify strategies and actions that can be taken in leading an inclusive SAI.

The masterclass consists of several scientific sessions with in-depth discussions on key topics, such as understanding the concept of “inclusive leadership” in terms of the notion of inclusiveness and its relation to diversity, reviewing contemporary leadership styles, and identifying the main traits of an inclusive leader.

The programme sessions also address reviewing means of acquiring expert knowledge on the best practices that encourage inclusive approaches in SAI works, identifying tools that support inclusive behaviour in the workplace, as well as discussing ways to cultivate a culture of an open and safe work environment.

It is worth noting that Inclusive Leadership is one of the masterclasses of the MASTERY initiative, which was launched by the IDI in early 2021. The MASTERY initiative aims at empowering SAI leaders to lead their institutions with the goal of realising change that leads to effectiveness, impact, and sustainability within and beyond their institutions. The initiative also facilitates the exchange of experiences among SAI leaders, fosters an in-depth understanding of crucial subjects, and provides opportunities for interaction with globally recognised experts in an enriching academic setting.
