Madayn drives industrial innovation through Intaj Sohar

Muscat: The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates “Madayn”, through the Industrial Innovation Academy, is dedicated to fostering industrial innovation and applied research while reinforcing national capabilities in the industrial sector.

This involves focusing on downstream production from existing key industries; identifying, developing and incubating industrial investment opportunities; and transforming them into value-added opportunities with quality capabilities, products and services while leveraging automation and Industry 4.0 technologies.

Intaj Sohar for Advanced Manufacturing, overseen by the Industrial Innovation Academy, stands as one of the initiatives supporting the manufacturing sector, fostering innovation, driving advanced industries forward, and promoting economic diversification in line with Oman Vision 2040.

“The company, which is based at Sohar University in Al Batinah North Governorate, functions as a factory for moulds and spare parts with the goal of mass production to achieve cost reduction, enhance production output, and target local and international markets,” said Majid Al Hinai, Executive Director of Intaj Sohar for Advanced Manufacturing.
Al Hinai pointed out that the company currently comprises three centres, namely, Plastic Technology Centre, Manufacturing Tools Centre (Dies and Moulds), and Advanced Manufacturing Centre. “Intaj Sohar’s objectives include developing technological skills and capabilities; prototyping, product and tools designing and manufacturing; advanced training and HR development; enhancing ICV and promoting economic diversification; fostering job creation; and providing opportunities for the SMEs in the industrial sector,” Al Hinai said.

He added, “Intaj Sohar provides high-value R&D and manufacturing services, reverse engineering services, precision components manufacturing, mould manufacturing, and spare parts production for diverse industrial companies. Utilising cutting-edge technologies, the company aims to attain the utmost quality in its processes, products, and services, emphasising its commitment to delivering advanced solutions to its clients. This commitment further solidifies the company’s role as one of the key contributors to the advancement of the manufacturing and innovation sectors.”

Intaj Sohar is equipped with advanced facilities for training Omani cadres on Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems and CNC machines, to promote knowledge and advanced technology transfer within the Sultanate.

Al Hinai further highlighted that the project presently employs 150 staff, with the total equipment and machine count exceeding 100. Notably, the company possesses over 25 per cent of all CNC machines in Oman. “These factors are expected to empower the local industry and uphold industrial excellence standards at both local and regional levels. This will be achieved through knowledge transfer, enhancing manufacturing quality and efficiency, developing workforce skills and technical capabilities, integrating advanced technology in production, prioritising sustainability, and ensuring customer satisfaction by improving market responsiveness and delivering high-quality products,” he added.
