Oman's Health Ministry continues to work towards reduction of waiting periods for surgery

Muscat: The Ministry of Health is making continuous and persistent efforts to reduce waiting lists for surgical operations in hospitals in the Sultanate of Oman.

In this regard, Sur Hospital, represented by the Surgery Department, performed approximately 40 cases of removal of thyroid tumours. Patients were transferred from the Royal Hospital to Sur Hospital in order to reduce the waiting lists at the Royal Hospital.

Dr. Yahya bin Humaid Al-Masrouri, Director of Sur Hospital, said that keeping in mind the implementation and improvement of the principle of decentralisation in health services, the hospital inaugurated the Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery Unit.

He stated that after the actual activation of this service, more than 50 patients from the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah who were registered on waiting lists at the Royal Hospital were received, and surgical intervention and the necessary medical service were performed for more than 70 per cent of them in the surgery department at Sur Hospital.

He stressed that the presence of this service in the hospital will contribute to alleviating the pressure on the waiting lists at the Royal Hospital, making it easier for the people of the Governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah.

In the same context, a team from the Ear, Nose and Throat Department at Al Nahda Hospital in the General Directorate of Khawla Hospital performed a number of surgical procedures at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah.

Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al Rahbi, Consultant Ear Surgery at Al Nahda Hospital in the General Directorate of Khawla Hospital, said that the visit of the ENT team to Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah took three days, where a number of ear bone caries surgeries were performed to reduce the pressure on Al Nahda Hospital in Muscat Governorate.
