Muscat: The Royal Academy of Management (RAM) enjoys the honourary Royal patronage of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik since its inception by Royal decree on 11 January 2022.
The RAM seeks to develop the capabilities of national leaders at all administrative levels in the public and private sectors through an integrated system of specialized centres, initiatives and programmes based on the most prominent concepts and methods of modern management.
The RAM constitutes a beacon of leadership and modern executive management within the context of Oman’s future vision. It is an edifice for executive learning, a centre for developing national leaders and administrative competencies from the public and private sectors. It also serves as a podium for thought, administrative development and knowledge, with a vision to enhance the prospects of the Omani economy in a work environment that stimulates the culture of efficiency, productivity and innovation.
The RAM presents its programmes and initiatives through four specialized, non-structural, self-dependent centres designed to ensure rapid response to developments in the respective fields.
In terms of prominence, the “Government Leadership Centre”, represents the first of RAM centres. It is inspired by the Royal directives on enhancing the efficiency of the state’s administrative apparatus and the requirements and objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The centre undertakes the task of grooming national leaders within their administrative hierarchies in the government, targeting senior and executive leaders responsible for formulating and implementing strategies and projects of Oman Vision 2040.
The Government Leadership Centre undertakes to form a community of qualified leaders in a way that ensures sustainability, continuity and advancement of administrative missions in a systematic manner, notably to inculcate a culture of efficiency, productivity and innovation in the field of government work.
The second of these centres is the “Centre for Business Leaders”, which is inspired by Royal directives on the importance of the private sector. It highlights the latest global trends and espouses a vision that embraces the most prominent innovations in the field of modern management. It targets leaders in the private sector at several levels, including the chairmen of boards of directors, CEOs and future leaders. Its objectives are realized through a range of initiatives and programmes aimed at enhancing leadership in institutions within the spectrum of globalized competition and a broad network of specialized and local, regional and international academic organisations.
The third pillar, the “Local Administration Development Centre”, stemmed from the implementation of the directives of His Majesty the Sultan to direct development to the governorates. The centre seeks to enhance readiness for investment, develop local roles and enhance decentralization of decision-making. The centre also aims to support local administration officials in the governorates in their endeavours to bring about balanced local development. It provides the officials with best practices in local administration, which reflects positively on the level of competitiveness of governorates.
The fourth pillar of the RAM is the “Centre for Future Studies”, which comes in line with the priority of leadership and economic management in Oman Vision 2040 whose prime objective is to establish renewable senior management based on competencies that suit market dynamics, future expectations, and rapid development.
This centre focuses on studying future trends, transformations, and future agendas. It is embarked on identifying emerging opportunities in relevant fields and promising vital sectors, while at the same time providing a broader understanding of future approaches.
The Centre for Future Studies serves as a house of expertise that brings together national and international experts to forge innovative solutions and new ideas to develop knowledge structures that support the initiatives and programmes at the RAM.
Within the context of developing leadership hubs (leadership complexes), the RAM provides a platform for national leaders, the prime objective for which it has allocated programmes for each leadership category, including the Public Policy and Strategic Planning Programme and the National Programme for Leadership Development and future vision.
As for private sector leaderships, the RAM has allocated the National Programme for the Development of Executive Leaders, as well as a certified trainer programme in leadership.
For the leaders of the local administration, the RAM has allocated the National Initiative for the Development of Local Administration. The RAM has allocated a master's programme in leadership and management.
The programmes and initiatives of the RAM also target Undersecretaries, Directors of Departments, Heads of Departments and their counterparts. They also target private sector strategic leaders, senior leaders and medium scale leaders. Among local administration leaders, the RAM targets Undersecretaries and their counterparts, Governors, the heads of Muscat and Dhofar Municipalities, Walis, the Municipal Council chairpersons and other officials of local administration.
The establishment of the Royal Academy of Management comes in implementation of Oman Vision 2040.
