Oman to celebrate International Human Rights Day on Monday

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Human Rights Commission, will celebrate the International Human Rights Day under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Secretary General at the Secretariat General for the Council of Ministers on Monday.

During the celebration, six humanitarian initiatives will be honoured that have contributed to many community actions, including providing free shelter for children with cancer and their families, providing psychological counseling and educational support, monitoring the psychological, social, cultural and health challenges faced by young people, and providing a safe and supportive environment for child development.

It provided support to parents to create a safe and healthy social and psychological environment for the child, and to build partnerships with government and private institutions and civil society organisations.

In addition, the initiatives were keen on their early intervention to deal with disabilities that may occur to children, raise the level of community awareness about autism spectrum disorder, activate the role of the injured and enhance their participation in society, protect children from exposure to exploitation, and enhance their confidence in themselves and their communities.

It is noteworthy that the celebration of the International Human Rights Day comes in commemoration of the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948.
