Sharm El-Sheikh: Oman, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and the Netherlands, represented by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of green energy.

The action took place on the sidelines of Oman’s participation in the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for 2022 (COP27)—hosted by Egypt and lasting from 6 to 18 November.

The MoU reflects the advanced relations between the two countries and their desire to enhance cooperation in the field of green energy.

The MoU encourages the two countries to support their respective companies operating in the field to identify export and import checkpoints for green hydrogen, associated fuel sources and raw material—serving as a gateway to Europe.

The MoU, which explores potential interests in industries within the value chain of green hydrogen, also encourages interaction between the various bodies responsible for implementing the Energy Policy to help exchange expertise, knowledge and information about green hydrogen.

Meanwhile, World Leaders Summit began in the Arab Republic of Egypt and it will include speeches and discussions on climate issues, in the presence of about 120 heads of state and governments, international personalities and experts.

Delegated by His Majesty the Sultanate, Eng. Salim Nasser Al Awfi, Minister of Energy and Minerals represents Oman in this global event.

On Monday, the summit included six meetings on three topics, namely “equitable transition to implementation”, “food security”, and “innovative financing for climate and development”. Tomorrow, the leaders’ summit will include three more sessions on investing in the future of energy: green hydrogen, water security, climate change and the sustainability of vulnerable communities.

Oman’s pavilion at the summit saw a number of discussion sessions on climate change and measures undertaken to reduce carbon emissions based on the national strategy for an orderly transition to a carbon neutral plan, green economy and investment in clean energy fields.
