State Council Office discusses proposals and sets agenda for next session

Muscat: The Office of the State Council on Wednesday held its second meeting of the third annual sitting of the 7th Term under the auspices of Sheikh Abdulmalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council.

The meeting studied proposals submitted by the council’s committees and some members.

Two proposals made by the Technology and Innovation Committee were taken up at the outset of the meeting. The first proposal dealt with a study on the Cyber Defence Centre’s system promulgated by Royal Decree No. 64/2020 and the second one looked into a study on the regulatory and legislative frameworks of artificial intelligence.

The State Council Office hosted Dr. Maryam Abdullah Al Awadi, Chairperson of the Technology and Innovation Committee, and the panel’s rapporteurs—Eng. Mohammed Ahmed Al Lamki and Dr. Mahmood Abdullah Al Kindi.

After the discussions, the Office decided to refer the two proposals to the General Assembly, along with the views of the chairperson and rapporteurs, for further elaboration.

Then, the Office studied a proposal from the Economic Committee on enhancing the basics of legal and regulatory systems governing real estate funding, financial leasing and consumer financing. It also studied the panel’s proposal on studying the agricultural sector’s economic returns and competitive capacity.

For comment on the two proposals, the State Council Office hosted Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah Al Harthy, Chairman of the Economic Committee, and Hamad Sulaiman Al Ghraibi, Rapporteur of the Committee.

The Office also looked into replies of departments concerned on issues raised by the State Council, including a study to boost water, hiking and desert sports, among other issues.
