Pravasi Bharatiya Divas set for grand opening in Bengaluru

New Delhi: Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD), the annual gathering of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) is all set for a grand opening.
The 14th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 8 in the presence Portuguese Prime Minister Dr Antonio Costa, the Chief Guest of the convention.
Being organised in association with the government of Karnataka, the theme of this year's PBD is "Redefining engagement with Indian diaspora". The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was launched by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government in 2003 to step up India's engagement with its diaspora. Since then, the congregation of NRIs and persons of Indian origin has continued as an annual affair.
