574 expats arrested, 386 deported for violating Oman labour law

Muscat: The final crackdown in 2016 on workers who violated the labour law in Oman resulted in the arrest of 574 expatriates.
The workers were arrested between the period between 25 and 31 December 2016, according to the Ministry of Manpower.
Of the total violators, 420 were commercial workers, 41 agricultural and 113 house workers.

Following investigations, 246 of them were absconding workers while 289 were found to be sacked by their employers and nine were not documented.
Muscat, the capital, recorded the highest number of arrests with 266 followed by North Al Batinah governorate with 108.
During the same week, 386 violating labourers were deported.
