Musandam safest for driving in Oman

Muscat: Musandam is the safest place in Oman in terms of traffic accidents, according to recent statistics.

Fresh figures from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) suggest that driving in the coastal governorate on a Tuesday at midnight in April was the safest.

Musandam recorded only four deaths last year, according to ROP statistics. Tuesday was the safest day as only 75 deaths were reported on this day throughout the year.

April was the safest month in 2015 recording 45 driving deaths while 12:00 am was the safest time to hit the road as only 101 accidents were reported at this hour. Oman witnessed a 7 per cent rise in total number of traffic accidents last year compared to 2014.

At the same time, fatalities declined by a whopping 17 per cent.

In 2014, 816 people died on Oman’s roads, while in 2015, the number dropped to 675.
