Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Saturday that a trough of low pressure is expected to affect the northern parts of the Sultanate from Monday till Wednesday.

A statement issued online by the CAA said, “The National Multi Hazards Early Warning Centre weather analysis indicates that a trough of low pressure named -- Al Reham Trough -- is expected to affect the northern parts of the Sultanate from Monday till Wednesday (December 7-9 2020).”

There are chances of rain with occasional thundershowers that may be associated with fresh winds, hail and flash floods in wadis over the governorate of Musandam today.
These will extend gradually during the evening over North Al Batinah and Al Buraimi governorates. However, the governorates of South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah will be affected by the trough on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Speaking exclusively to the Times of Oman,  a specialist from the National Multi-Hazards Early Warning Centre of the CAA  said, “The trough of low pressure, Al Reham Trough, is not a  strong but medium air situation that will affect the Sultanate’s atmosphere from today beginning with Musandam governorate.

“It will then extend to the northern governorates passing over the governorates of North and South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi governorate, parts of Al Dhahirah governorate, Muscat governorate, and governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah.”

Following the passage of the trough, a moderate to fresh northeasterly wind is forecasted to affect most of the Sultanate, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature. The sea state will be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of Musandam governorate and Oman Sea will see a maximum wave height of 2.5 metres.

The Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take precautions during rain and to check the visibility and sea state before sailing and to follow the issued weather bulletins and reports.
